Technology to make life easier for a working mum

Modern technology

Innovative technology for today’s busy life.

As a full-time working mother, it can be hard to balance my home life with work commitments. Like it or not, my time – and that of every other working parent – is very often squeezed.

With 2 young children and 2 indoor cats, I’ve given up hope of keeping my house as clean and tidy as a show home. Nowadays I’m just happy if I can still see the floor under the inevitable piles of toys.

Thankfully, there’s lots of stuff  – innovative technology stuff to be precise – to make our lives just that little bit easier. As a working mother, some of these things are invaluable.

Here are a few things I couldn’t live without…

Steam mop

It sounds really sad to be excited about a mop, but this has revolutionised my floor cleaning.

I’ve never been a traditional mop and bucket fan and always tended to clean my floors on bended knees with a cloth and scrubbing brush in hand. My steam mop has put a stop to that, deep cleaning my floors in minutes.

Life is so much easier when you don’t have to spend so much of it cleaning!

Slow cooker

This surely has to be every working mother’s dream. Every night when I get home from work I just want a hot meal that doesn’t take hours to prepare. A slow cooker is a god-send.

I love that I can prepare ingredients the night before, stick them into my slow cooker and let it cook gently for the rest of the day. It’s also versatile. Not only can you make stews and cook roasts, but if Mummy Barrow is to be believed, you can also use it to make cheesecake!

Smartphone

This is pretty obvious really, but mobile phones have come on in leaps and bounds over the years. Not only do they take calls, messages, emails, photos and videos, but they’re also the gateway to the internet when you’re on the go.

It means I can always be contacted if my children need me, record precious moments quickly and do a whole host of other things thanks to the multitude of apps on offer.

The best thing about my phone though? The fact it can also be used as a TV remote. Mind. Blown.

GoPro

This little action camera is small, very small. It’s practically the size of a matchbox, but it takes very impressive video. All you have to do is point the GoPro in the direction you want to film and the ultra-wide lens will record all of the action.

It’s so convenient to carry around on days out with my children and I use mine regularly to record our memories.

Digital photo frame

What better way to showcase all the thousands of photos and videos of your children stored on your computer than with a digital photo frame? It’s really easy to upload images, which are then showcased as a slideshow, and you can update it as often as you need to.

How about you? What sort of technology could you not live without?

This post was inspired after Legal and General recently published an article giving their take on modern technology and day-to-day living. I could have mentioned a lot more, but the list could have very easily become endless! I’m so thankful that we live in an age where technological advances mean our lives are so much easier to manage.

  1. My steam mop was an absolute god-send today. It makes my life so much easier and I get less back ache scrubbing those floors! (My friends took the Mickey out of me when I told them how excited I was about owning one). Technology is ace!

    1. I totally agree. My knees were forever complaining when I would wash all the floors before I got my mop. It used to take ages as well whereas now, it’s about 5 minutes.

  2. I love my slow cooker – it’s such a handy piece of kitchen equipment! Mine gets more use in the autumn/winter than spring/summer though. I couldn’t be without my iPhone either, it’s a mini computer in my hands! x

    1. I don’t think that makes you sound old, I think it makes you sound sensible! Who wants to spend hours washing their floors when it could be done in 10 minutes or less? It means less time cleaning and more time having fun 🙂

    1. Yes do! One of the things I love about it is that it’s small enough to hold in the palm of my hand and any filming I do doesn’t intrude on our days out. There’s a load of harnesses and mounts you can buy for it too.

  3. As a busy mom I can say that I am very happy that there are some new technology that makes cleaning a bit easier.. like those cleaning robots! Also the tools and methods of cleaning are much more advanced than before… 🙂 Thanks for the post!

  4. Really great stuff that I cannot live without anymore. Nowadays the women are working as much as the men and there is so many things to deal with as a mother, business woman and a housewife that it is really impossible without these helpers. I love my dishwasher… my robot vacuum cleaner.. the slow cooker… the steam mop. They make my life possible! I clean everyday and do many house chores but definitely it is much easier! Thanks for sharing! The GoPro is something that I would love to have! Greets!
